Ghost Story by Ajahn Brahm

Venerable Bhikkhu Brahmavaṃso Mahathera (Ajahn Brahm) told a funny true ghost story. If you love ghost stories, you should listen to this one. I also heard another of Ajahn's ghost story when I came to one of his talk show. I remembered Ajahn said that the ghosts, knowing Ajahn seeing and walking towards them, ran away screaming like "this monk can see us!". Have you got any true ghost stories?.. :)

Simile of the Cup (as the Mind) by Ajahn Brahm

Venerable Bhikkhu Brahmavaṃso Mahathera (Ajahn Brahm) gave a short talk on simile of the cup. Perhaps you already knew the simile of the cup which Ajahn taught us in many of his talks. In those talks Ajahn wanted us to see the cup as the duties (which cause stress) in our lives and we needed to put it down for a while, meditate and afterwards we can lift the cup up again, meaning we can then get back to our duties.

However, in this short talk, Ajahn gave us another kind of meaning of that simile, the kind that is actually so related to a technique in meditation. Ajahn wants us to see the cup as our mind and we want to make it still. You can try what Ajahn was doing in the video and you will see that you cannot still the juice in the cup by trying harder and harder and harder to still it. So how can we make our mind perfectly still? Find the answer in this video.
